Sweet Sushi Rice Balls

If you love sushi, you might like this new recipe too that I am going to share today. Sushi is one of the all-time favourite dishes that amuses me every time I have it. The exotic taste, presentation and simplicity of the dish is so soul-satisfying. So, I tried to create a sweeter version of it, keeping the minimalism and simplicity in mind and, it was absolutely delightful. The key ingredients- chocolate and coconut, were modestly paired with the sushi rice while the sugar and the aromatics added a balanced sweetness and flavour that made it simply delicious. Check this out!

Ingredients:

Sushi Rice: 1 cup | Chocolate chips: 1 cup | Milk: 1/4th of a cup (Or as required) | Sugar: Half cup | Salt: One pinch | Cinnamon powder: Half teaspoon | Nutmeg powder: Half teaspoon | Coconut powder: 1 cup

Preparation: 45 minutes to an hour

Step 1: Soak the rice in water for an hour and wash it properly. Strain the water and put it into a pot for cooking. Add 1 and half cup water for one cup of rice, a pinch of salt and bring it to boil. Lower the flame, cover the lid and cook the rice for about 10 -15 minutes. Once done turn off the gas and let it cool down for about 5-10 minutes. Now with the help of a masher or backside of a ladle gently mash the rice and set it aside. You can add some butter while mashing the rice for extra flavour which is optional.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate chips in a saucepan. Keep the gas in low flame. Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg powder and whisk it gently. Add milk and continuously keep whisking. Don’t pour the entire milk at a time, add 3-4 tablespoons first, check the consistency and add more milk if required. Within 3-5 minutes, once it starts boiling, turn the gas off.

Step 3: Keep all three items (i.e. the chocolate syrup, coconut powder and cooked rice) in separate utensils to start making the rice balls. Wet your palms, so that the rice does not stick. Take a small portion of rice in your hand and make a ball, dip it into the chocolate syrup and finally, coat it with the coconut powder. Keep it aside on a plate and repeat the same process to make the rest. Keep some water in a separate bowl to wash your hands every time.

Once done, refrigerate the sushi rice balls for about 30 minutes to an hour to let the chocolate layer become firm. Serve it along with a dip of hot chocolate syrup and enjoy this amazing super light dessert at home.
